A burst water main left some Walsall residents without water for more than 12 hours - but 'normal service' has now resumed. Homes, gardens and roads were flooded following the incident on Broadway North over the weekend.

Although South Staffs Water said affected properties in the WS1 and WS4 areas now have running water, road closures will continue to bring disruption in the area. The Crescent will remain closed between Broadway North and Sutton Road, for approximately 10 days.

West Midlands Fire Service, Walsall Council and West Midlands Police were all on scene when water started gushing onto the street just before 7pm on Sunday, April 28. As engineers started repair work, firefighters isolated the electrics in two properties, while some garden fence panels were removed in an attempt to lower water levels.

Crews remained at the scene for much of Monday morning (April 29) and carried out welfare checks at affected properties. Portable pumping equipment was also used to clear several driveways and garages.

The latest update about the incident on South Staffs Water's website, posted at 9.45am on Tuesday, April 30, read: "Normal service has resumed after the disruption caused by a burst main on Broadway North, Walsall. Water supply has returned to normal for affected properties in the WS1 and WS4 areas and road closures will remain in place on The Crescent for approximately 10 days. We apologise for the inconvenience caused and thank you for your patience."
