Greater Manchester is braced for heavy rain this week before conditions turn drier at the weekend.

Today (Tuesday) is expected to be largely dry and cloudy with temperatures reaching highs of around 18C. But from the early hours of tomorrow morning, downpours are forecast for much of the day.

According to the Met Office forecasters, lighter showers are expected in our region throughout the morning before the rain turns heavy during the afternoon. The showers are expected through until Thursday morning as rain clouds sweep over much of England.

It will also feel cooler tomorrow with highs of around 16C forecast. Thursday will also feel cooler with an average temperature of around 14C during the afternoon.

It is expected to a largely cloudy and overcast day. Conditions are expected to turn slightly more bright and dry by the time we get to Friday, with some cloudy and sunny intervals forecast.

On Saturday, temperatures will rise to around 19C again with more sunny and cloudy intervals expected. On Sunday, there may be some light showers in the afternoon.

On the overall outlook for the North West from Thursday to Sunday, the Met Office said: "Remaining unsettled over the coming days with variable amounts of cloud and showers.

"These perhaps merging to give more general rain on Thursday. Becoming dry and bright by Saturday."
