Spain city with no tension between tourists and Brits 'suddenly swarmed'

UK tourists in Spain have been warned after one city was "suddenly swarmed". A tiny city in Spain home to just 120,000 people has suddenly been swarmed by huge companies. Alcobendas is the second most popular city in Spain for companies to set up, behind only capital city Madrid.

The area had a total of 654 multinational businesses based there last year, according to the latest figures. Its 'tax framework aimed at job creation' is a major source of investment in the area as more and more firms decide to flock to it.

The scheme boasts the 'lowest tax pressure both for companies (Property Tax Business, Activities Tax and rates) and residents (Property Tax and local services)'. "After years of issues Spain is going from strength to strength, high growth and lower inflation than most. Even youth unemployment is falling. Good news for a beautiful country with great people," a Brit said in response to the news.

Alcobendas is a city located in northern Madrid, with 117,000 inhabitants. Thanks to its great public transport system, the city is less than 15 minutes away from Madrid’s financial district and Downtown, Adolfo Suárez Madrid-Barajas international airport and IFEMA convention centre.

The unemployment rate is much lower than many other areas of the country - at 5.8 per cent - according to the Express, which is half the national average in Spain, where protests have recently broken out amid a lack of prospects and affordable housing for locals in areas like Seville, Madrid, the Canary Island and Balearics.

The city currently hosts the headquarters of 554 multinational corporations. Alcobendas has launched a Digital Innovation Hub, called Intelligent Urban Lab, with the support of local institutions, companies, universities and start-ups.

Alcobendas also has some of the most prestigious schools in Spain with a range of public and private centres. More than 30,000 students attend the three universities located within the area, including the Autonomous University of Madrid (the second best university in Spain).
