Spar shop in Helston ransacked as Londis also hit by raiders overnight

Two retail shops have been left ransacked after burglaries in the middle of the night. The Spar shop in Helston remains closed this morning (Monday, May 13) and the Londis was also targeted.

Devon and Cornwall Police confirmed it is investigating reports of a burglary at a commercial premises on Meneage Street that is believed to have occured at around 3.30am. It says entry was forced through a shop door.

A local resident shared an image taken through the shop window this morning saying the Spar shop was unusually closed. Various retail products can be seen strewn across the floor of the building.

A Devon and Cornwall Police spokesperson said: "Police are investigating reports of a burglary at a commercial premises on Meneage Street, Helston on Monday 13 May. The incident is believed to have occurred at around 3.30am when entry was forced into the building through a shop door.

"Enquiries remain ongoing. Anyone with information which may assist us is asked to contact police on 101 or via our website quoting crime reference 50240114590."

Police are also investigating reports of a second burglary at another commercial premises on Coinage Hall Street in the town. An incident occurred at around 11.50pm at the Londis store.

A police spokesperson said: "Police are investigating reports of a burglary at a commercial premises on Coinage Hall Street, Helston, on Sunday 12 May. The incident is believed to have occurred at around 11.50pm when entry was forced into the building via a glass panel and items stolen. Enquiries remain ongoing."
