A West Midlands Police spokesperson said: “Local policing teams in Erdington and Kingstanding have increased their presence around school finishing times and into the evening following a spate of robberies in the area. We are continuing to investigate robberies in the area where teenagers have been targeted. Officers arrested a 14-year-old boy and he was charged with robbery offences.

“We are currently reviewing CCTV and carrying out patrol operations as well as working alongside British Transport Police and Safer Travel patrolling bus and train stations. We are working with schools in the area, local councillors, the local community, and partners to work together to deal with this issue.

“We understand there are concerns from the community and we are working hard to identify those involved and bring them to justice. We would ask parents to have a conversation with their children around their own personal safety, keeping possessions out of sight, reviewing their phone settings and remaining vigilant.”
