Spotify Wrapped: Streaming service reveals biggest tracks, albums and artists of 2019

Spotify has revealed its annual list of data for the most-streamed artists of 2019, with Post Malone, Billie Eilish and Ariana Grande among the top acts.

Globally, 17-year-old Billie Eilish scored the biggest album of the year with her debut, When We All Fall Asleep, Where Do We Go?, marking the first time a female artist has topped the list. She was also the second most-streamed global artist of 2019, and her hit single “Bad Guy” was the second biggest track, after Camila Cabello and Shawn Mendes’s duet “Senorita”.

The Latin-influenced pop song received more than a billion streams, while Eilish’s goth-pop sound attracted more than 990 million. The third most-streamed song was Post Malone’s collaboration with Swae Lee, “Sunflower”, from the film Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, followed by Ariana Grande’s “7 Rings”, and Lil Nas X and Billy Ray Cyrus’s country-rap smash “Old Town Road”.

Overall, Post Malone was the biggest artist of 2019, with more than 6.5 billion global streams. The news comes just 12 weeks after the hip-hop star released his latest album, Hollywood’s Bleeding, which is the year’s second most-streamed album.

In the UK, Lewis Capaldi had the biggest song with “Someone You Loved”, while Ed Sheeran was the most-streamed artist. Sheeran’s collaboration with Justin Bieber, “I Don’t Care”, also made it on to the list of most-streamed tracks, at number three, followed by Stormzy’s hit “Vossi Bop” at number four. Eilish took the number two spot with “Bad Guy”, while Grande rounded off the list with “7 Rings” at number five.
