Squall Brings Snow, Thunder to Northern Maryland

A snow squall pushing through parts of Maryland brought “white-out conditions” and strong winds on Wednesday, January 8, the National Weather Service (NWS) said.

A snow squall warning was issued for several cities in northern Maryland as the NWS warned residents of the squall’s effects. The weather service said snow squalls have been capable of generating more than two inches of snow per hour, along with lightning.

This video shows snowfall coating the yard of a home in Owings Mills, Maryland, as power lines sway in the wind and a clap of thunder sounds in the distance. The video also shows a burst of snow moving through the area.

Owings Mills resident Craig Allen, who filmed the footage, said on Twitter that the “thundersnow squall” darkened the skies and cut power temporarily.
