‘Squid Game’ Season 2 To Premiere In 2024 Alongside New Seasons Of ‘Bridgerton’ & ‘The Diplomat’

Squid Game is coming back this year.

Netflix confirmed that the Korean drama series will air in 2024. It will debut alongside the second seasons of The Diplomat and Empress as well as the third season of Bridgerton.

“Looking ahead, despite last year’s strikes pushing back the launch of some titles, we have a big, bold slate for 2024,” the company said in its investor letter after its financials.

Squid Game debuted on Netflix on September 17, 2021, and became a global phenomenon. The series clocked over 1.65B viewing hours in 28 days and reached 111 million accounts, becoming Netflix’s first series to surpass 100 million members at launch. It remains the most-watched series ever on Netflix.

Season 2 will see Lee Byung-hun returning as Front Man and Wi Ha-jun, who will revisit the character of police detective Jun-ho. Gong Yoo will be coming back as well.

New cast includes Yim Si-wan, Kang Ha-Neul, Park Sung-hoon and Yang Dong-geun as well as Park Gyu-young, Jo Yu-ri, Kang Ae-sim, Lee David, Lee Jin-uk, Choi Seung-hyun, Roh Jae-won and Won Ji-an.

Hwang Dong-hyuk is returning to direct and executive produce the sophomore season of the series that will start production this year.

The Diplomat, which stars Keri Russell, was renewed in May for a second season.

The political drama comes from Debora Cahn, who is also executive producer alongside Janice Wiliams, Russell and Alex Graves. It follows Kate Wyler (Russell) as the new U.S. Ambassador to the United Kingdom. She has to diffuse international crises, forge strategic alliances in London and adjust to her new place in the spotlight — all while trying to survive her marriage to fellow career diplomat and political star Hal Wyler (Rufus Sewell).

David Gyasi, Ali Ahn, Rory Kinnear and Ato Essandoh also star.

Netflix previously revealed that Bridgerton, which is now “ultra-sexy,” is returning in two parts — the first on May 16 and the second on June 13. The eight-episode drama comes from Shonda Rhimes’ Shondaland.

Finally, The Empress is a German drama series that launched in September 2022. It stars Devrim Lingnau as the titular Austrian Empress Elisabeth of Bavaria, Philip Froissant, Johannes Nussbaum and Almila Bagriacik.
