St Andrew’s Day Romanian Flag Mixup Baffles Scottish Facebook Users

Facebook has left Scottish users confused by suggesting that they celebrate St Andrew’s Day - with a Romanian flag, rather than the Saltire.

Facebook users in choosing the ‘celebrating St Andrew’s Day’ status update option were reportedly presented with the blue, yellow and red Romanian tricolor, rather than Scotland’s white cross on a blue background.

While it may sound like an unusual mistake, St Andrew is the patron saint of several countries, including Romania where it is a public holiday.

Facebook users have been using the trending #StAndrewsDay hashtag to expression their confusion and annoyance on Twitter.

Twitter user Carla McGuire (@Carlarar) tweeted a picture of the Romanian flag offered by Facebook with the words: “Why are Facebook hitting us with a Romanian Tricolour for St Andrews day? #rude”.

The bug appears to have been corrected and Scotland’s national flag is now available.

Meanwhile, tech rival Google is celebrating the day with a Saltire doodle on its homepage, featuring the Loch Ness Monster.
