Chinese Tower Blocks Have Terrifying Outdoor ?‘Floating’ Staircase

Weird external staircases straddling a series of new-build Chinese tower blocks have left locals lost for words.

The outdoor stairways stand high up along the front of each residential building - and they don’t look remotely safe.

What locals once thought would be secure outdoor balconies have caused much confusion for those passing the construction site.

Causing confusion: Locals can’t get to grips with the unusual?“floating” stairway (CEN)?

The “floating” stairways, in Liaocheng City, in East China’s Shandong Province, don’t have handrails and seemed to serve no particular purpose, leading locals to believe they were set to be some sort of elaborate balcony.

But now the structures are completed and, with the buildings soon welcoming new tenants, the stairways remain just as bizarre as when they were first seen.

Simple banisters have been installed on the stairways, which have been fitted to every building in the residential block.

Placed awkwardly right outside the windows of potential tenants, the stairways reportedly help link adjacent buildings together - meaning residents will not have to travel all the way to the ground floor and then take another lift to their neighbours in the other building.

Don’t look down: Only the bravest would want to sample this stairway (CEN)?

But using the balconies might not be to the liking of concerned parents who fear the outdoor steps could be an accident waiting to happen.

Locals have suggested that the new gimmick may help property developers drive up the price of the new soon-to-be-available homes.

But so far no price has been mentioned and no opening date set for the new residential buildings.
