A 63-year-old man is fighting for life in hospital after falling and becoming trapped under his car near London Stansted Airport.

Emergency services raced to the scene after the accident at Terminal Road North on Tuesday morning.

An statement from Essex Police, which has officers at the scene in the district of Uttlesford, said the incident happened shortly after 4am.

This read: "A driver has been taken to hospital with life threatening injuries following an incident at Stansted Airport.

"We were called shortly after 4am today, Tuesday, September 25, to reports a 63-year-old man had fallen and become trapped underneath his car in Terminal Road North.

"The driver, from Waltham Cross, was taken to Addenbrooke’s Hospital in Cambridge with a head injury."

It advised anyone travelling to the airport to be aware that the road had been closed and this might cause some disruption.

A spokesperson for Stansted Airport confirmed the incident had occurred and police were dealing with the situation.

They said it was a single car incident and the road was closed.

This has not caused major disruption to services thus far, though the Express Set Down parking area is closed, with people advised to use the near by short stay car park instead.
