Star Trek: Deep Space Nine star Aron Eisenberg has died at the age of 50.
Aron was best known for playing Nog, the first Ferengi to join Starfleet, in Star Trek spin-off series Deep Space Nine between 1993 and 1999, and the news of his passing was confirmed by his wife Malissa on Facebook on Saturday (September 21).
"It is with extreme regret and sadness to announce that my love and best friend, Aron Eisenberg, passed away earlier today," she wrote.
"He was an intelligent, humble, funny, emphatic soul. He sought to live his life with integrity and truth. He was so driven to put the best he had into whatever work was put before him.
"He made me (and still makes me) want to be the best human I can possibly be, because he always strove to be the best human he could be. His resilience and willingness to learn was and is an inspiration."
She continued: "There will never be another light like Aron's. The beauty that he was and the legacy he leaves behind is beyond words. I love him dearly and will miss him eternally.
"At the moment I'm not sure how to do life without him... He is and always will be My California."
Among those who paid tribute to Eisenberg was Deep Space Nine co-star Armin Shimerman, who shared that he had "lost a great friend".
"I have lost a great friend and the world has lost a great heart," he wrote on Twitter.
"He was a man of conviction and enormous sensitivity and the best of humanity. Kitty and I grieve for Aron, his boys, and Malissa. Flights of angels my friend...you will be missed. There are no words..."

Heartbreaking news. #DS9’s @AronEisenberg has passed away. Aron delt with health issues his whole life but never let that stop him from living it to the fullest. He was a talented actor and a wonderful person. He will be greatly missed. https://t.co/ShMWZbNCy0— Robert Hewitt Wolfe (@writergeekrhw) September 22, 2019

I’m so, so sorry Malíssa. 😢 Aron was a wonderful person. Just a week ago we were making plans for early October. It shows how quickly things can change. He embodied the hope and joy Star Trek brings to so many, and I will miss him. Sending you all my best thoughts and wishes. 🖖🏼— C Bryan Jones (@cbryanjones) September 22, 2019
