Star Trek: Discovery's latest episode 'Choose Your Pain' featured a first for the franchise, both on TV and in movies.

Episode five saw not one, but two characters drop an F-bomb, with Cadet Tilly (Mary Wiseman) getting the honours of the first, shortly followed by Lt Paul Stamets (Anthony Rapp).

And Rapp told IndieWire that it was "f**king cool" to do it. "We were aware of it, and we embraced it, and we had a blast with it," he noted.

"These people just put their brains to work in a really tough way and they had a breakthrough. And I imagine there's scientists in their labs who might do that any time. We didn't drop the F-bomb in Star Trek by telling something to go f**k themselves."

'Choose Your Pain' also saw Lt Stamets take a big risk by injecting himself with tardigrade DNA in order to save Captain Lorca (Jason Isaacs) from the Klingons.

"I think I was pretty sure it was gonna work based on all the homework that we had all been doing... that the closest relative that could absorb the DNA and implement it would be a human being... so I was pretty sure it was gonna work," Rapp explained.

Shazad Latif has also been teasing to Digital Spy that no-one is safe on the show: "You keep the audience on tenterhooks. You never know."

Star Trek: Discovery airs on CBS All Access in the US and Netflix in the UK.
