Harry Potter star Jason Isaacs takes the helm in a brand new preview of Star Trek: Discovery.

Isaacs joins the ranks of William Shatner, Patrick Stewart and Kate Mulgrew in landing his own Starfleet captain's chair, having been cast in the role of the USS Discovery's captain Gabriel Lorca.

The photo above is also our first proper glimpse at the actual USS Discovery ship. According to Entertainment Weekly, the recent trailer and all previous promo photos all took place on the USS Shenzhou.

The beginning of the series will chronicle how Michael Burnham (Sonequa Martin-Green) goes from the bridge of the Shenzhou to becoming first officer on the USS Discovery.

This turn of events with apparently ruffle the feathers of the Vulcans, since the recent trailer hinted that Burnham will clash with Ambassador Sarek (James Frain) over a risky mission.

Burnham has deep Vulcan connections, having studied under Spock's father Sarek as the first human child ever accepted into the Vulcan Science Academy.

"I have the Vulcan conflict in my life from Sarek and Amanda so there's always going to be that inner conflict with me," Sonequa Martin-Green recently revealed.

"But I think it's relatable because we all have some kind of inner conflict going on - who we are versus who we present ourselves to be. There's a lot to be discovered."
