Star Trek: Strange New Worlds stars "giddy" over musical episode
The Star Trek: Strange New Worlds cast has shared their thoughts on the series' musical episode, revealing their excitement.
Last week, it was revealed that season two, episode nine, titled 'Subspace Rhapsody', would be a musical episode — the first-ever in the franchise — featuring 10 original songs.
Speaking to Radio Times, stars Anson Mount (Christopher Pike) and Rebecca Romijn (Number One) explained how much work went in behind-the-scenes to get the episode right.
"The great thing about working with [showrunner] Akiva Goldsman is he is not afraid to fail," Mount explained. "There were moments at the end of the season two shoot, we had an episode that was particularly difficult and it required us to come in on the weekends."
Despite the long hours, Mount and Romijn explained that the cast was "excited" to put in the extra hours because they knew the finished episode would be worth it.
"We were honestly excited to be at work on a Sunday, just because we knew it was really going to pop and take everybody by surprise," Mount said.
"We were positively giddy coming in on the weekends and working on it!" Romijn added.
'Subspace Rhapsody' isn't the only innovative Strange New Worlds episode either, with the new season also featuring a crossover with the animated show Lower Decks.
Titled 'Those Old Scientists', the episode saw Lower Decks' Brad Boimler (voiced by Jack Quaid) transported to the USS Enterprise, with Captain Pike and his crew tasked with assisting his return to the 24th century.
Star Trek: Strange New Worlds season 2 streams on Paramount+, with new episodes on Thursdays.
