Despite being the MAIN character in The Force Awakens, Star Wars Monopoly somehow did not include Rey in its sets when it was released back in 2015.

However, after a raft of controversy, it seems makers Hasbro have taken the hint and finally decided to sell sets that include the Daisy Ridley character.

The protest all began 18 months ago with the hashtag #WheresRey after the fandom hit out at the toymaker for the exclusion.

Among the voices slamming Hasbro was 8-year-old Annie Rose Goldman, who wrote a letter telling the company that "girls matter", which subsequently went viral online.

"Without her, there is no Force Awakens!" it added, continuing: "Boys and girls need to see women can be as strong as men".

The manufacturer said it would include the sale of Rey-inclusive sets later in 2016, though said last week that there was "insufficient interest" from US retailers for the product.

While some versions were sold outside the US, they had to request a token to have Rey included in their sets.

"For those 'sufficiently interested' contact Hasbro customer service to get your Rey Monopoly token!" The Force Awakens director JJ Abrams tweeted in light of the revelation.

The new Rey-inclusive sets will be released on July 25, according to Hasbro's website.

Meanwhile, the next Star Wars adventure, The Last Jedi, is set to be released on December 15 this year.
