As Steph's Packed Lunch was cut in a TV shake up, could Steph McGovern be lined up for Holly Willoughby’s job on This Morning?

PR expert and publicist Lynn Carratt at Press Box PR highlighted the beloved TV presenter could be in the running for the position, telling Yahoo News: "Now, with Holly's shoes to fill as host of This Morning and with Steph looking for a new job in the new year, she could be a shoo-in for the role, and why not?

"She has made the nation's lunchtimes more entertaining for the past three years and has a great warmth and likeability about her. Not to mention her pedigree as a journalist and her experience in live TV."

Willoughby quit This Morning after 14 years when she became in the eye of a media storm following an alleged kidnap plot.

Her resignation came five months after her longtime presenting partner Phillip Schofield left the show following his affair with a younger male colleague.

Everyone has been wondering who will replace Willoughby, the darling of daytime TV? And will Willoughby return to Dancing on Ice? What will Willoughby do next?

This week bubbly TV star McGovern has emerged as a possible front runner for This Morning after her own Channel 4 show Steph’s Packed Lunch was axed after three years.

Interestingly, the Press Box PR pointed out the presenter already has connections at This Morning and it would be a natural move for the star.

Publicity expert Ms Carratt told us: "I was surprised about the controversial axing of Steph's Packed Lunch after three years on air - the show was seemingly going from strength to strength in viewers' eyes and could rely on a loyal fan base.

"Although the show has seen a slide-in viewing figures in recent weeks, it is something that could be rectified. The show's biggest loss was when their well-respected Executive Editor Vivek Sharma, was poached by ITV's This Morning earlier this year to work alongside under-fire editor Martin Frizell."

She added: "Sharma has always been a huge champion of Tyneside-born McGovern and her presenting talent. Now, with Holly's shoes to fill as host of This Morning and with Steph looking for a new job in the new year, she could be a shoo-in for the role, and why not?

"She has made the nation's lunchtimes more entertaining for the past three years and has a great warmth and likeability about her. Not to mention her pedigree as a journalist and her experience in live TV.

"Steph cut her teeth at the BBC and was the main business presenter for BBC Breakfast, often co-hosting the entire programme, so hosting This Morning is definitely a job she would be comfortable in. I think she would make a great addition to the show's presenting team, and the viewers would love her."

Steph's Packed Lunch had some memorable moments and the star certainly loved presenting the show.

Before her show was dropped, McGovern had shot down the reports saying she was happy with Steph's Packed Lunch.

Of course, a lot changes in showbiz in a week. Now the star will be on the lookout for a new presenting gig, the This Morning position looks like a sensible move.

The PR mastermind pointed out though there would be some personal considerations for McGovern, including a move to the London area.

Ms Carratt added: "Asked at the Attitude Awards last week about whether she would be interested in a move, Steph replied: "I'm very happy at Channel 4 doing Steph's Packed Lunch, but never say never."

"Obviously, now things have changed with the axing, I guess the decision Steph would have to make if she'd uproot her family from the home in North Tyneside for the plum role."

Speculation has been rife about Willoughby's This Morning replacement while ITV have yet to confirm who they are eyeing up for the position.

Great British Bake Off star Alison Hammond is certainly a potential star who could take over, having had great success on the baking show and also being a part of the This Morning family for some time now.

There's also Josie Gibson, who like Hammond found fame on Big Brother and has been part of the This Morning family.
