Steph's Packed Lunch is coming to an end, with Channel 4 announcing it will wrap at the end of this year.

The daytime series hosted by Steph McGovern - which the star launched in her living room in 2020 amid the coronavirus lockdowns - has a devoted following, with many saying on social media that it's "a mistake" to axe it.

But, calling time on the series, the broadcaster said that audience habits were "changing quicker than ever" and that "difficult decisions" had to be made.

As the curtain falls on the series, we remember some of the show's highlights.

Smear test live on show

Two years ago McGovern had a smear test live on her programme in a bid to tackle the fact that many women don't attend their screenings.

"There are a lot women who struggle with going to their smear test because they think it’s going to be awful and embarrassing, so we decided to show you what actually happens," she explained before going through the test, talking viewers through it as it went along.

McGovern later joked that nothing would phase her after that episode.

"I’ve literally got my muff out on the telly so once you’ve done that I don’t think there is anything that can be really embarrassing," she told the Huffington Post.

Joe Lycett walk out

In July 2021, comedian Joe Lycett stunned viewers when he pretended to storm off the programme.

He walked off after McGovern pointed out a plastic Yop! drink bottle in a picture of him in his garden – not long after he’d claimed to have given up using them.

Muttering “I didn’t realise I was on Newsnight”, he removed his mic and walked out, looking furious.

However, the star later revealed the whole thing was planned and that it was set up to make a point about the use of plastic.

Mammogram

Earlier this year McGovern was in the headlines when she followed up her smear test episode by having a mammogram on her show.

The TV star decided to go through the screening live to raise awareness and encourage more women to have mammograms.

As she had it done she told viewers: "The tears in my eyes are not because this is in any way painful, it’s really not, it’s the magnitude of it all, you’re saving lives by doing this.

“I mean, it is uncomfortable, but that is not painful at all, honestly, it's like someone just squeezing you."

She later said of getting emotional during the screening: "I was remembering the person I lost, a close friend, who helped me get to where I am in my career and even starting sets me off, it’s so deep and emotional.”
