Steps are apparently taking a break while the band members focus on their individual projects.

Singer Claire Richards shared the news, saying that getting to take time out and do their own thing kept it “fresh” and that it wouldn’t be too long before the Tragedy singers were back.

The group – comprised of Richards, Lee Latchford-Evans, Lisa Scott-Lee, Faye Tozer and Ian "H" Watkins – got together in 1997 but went their separate ways in 2001.

They reunited for more music in 2011 and again in 2017, and have released a string of albums in recent years.

Richards told the Mirror that the pop stars will perform at Brighton Pride in August but that other than that they were “taking a break” and that everyone “just needs a little chill”.

“At the moment, everyone's just concentrating on individual stuff, which is, it's nice and it works for us when we do that because it means that when we do come back together, it's so it's fresh again and we're excited about getting back on stage and wanting to do it,” she said.

She added that she didn't know when that moment was but assured the group's army of followers that it "won't be too long".

The singer shared that right now the band members all have other things on, although she made it clear that they are not splitting.
