Stoke City sent on long mid-week trip in Carabao Cup first round

Stoke City will take on Carlisle United in the Carabao Cup first round.

The draw has taken place this morning live on Sky Sports News and the Potters make the long trip to Brunton Park on either Tuesday or Wednesday August 13 or 14.

The match will be shown live on Sky Sports, as will every tie in the Carabao Cup this season, as part of a new five-year £935 million deal with the EFL.

Stoke reached the third round of this competition last season, when they were knocked out on the road at Premier League side Bournemouth.

It is the clubs' first meeting since 1986 in the old Division Two - and it will be only the fifth ever meeting between the two sides. Stoke won home and away in the top flight in 1974/75 and drew and lost their clashes in 1985/86.

The game will be fitted in between Stoke's home game against Coventry on the opening day (12.30pm, Saturday August 10) and an away trip to Watford on Saturday, August 17.
