Stoke City star Saido Berahino arrested on suspicion of drink-driving in London's West End

Former England Under-21 star Saido Berahino has been arrested on suspicion of drink-driving.

The Stoke City striker, 25, was detained in London's West End after reports of a "disturbance" in Great Russell Street at about 3am on Monday.

The Metropolitan Police said: "When officers arrived on scene a car was seen to drive away at speed.

"The car was stopped by police in Bedford Square and a 25-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of drink-driving."

Police said that while he was detained, Berahino told officers he had been robbed in Great Russell Street.

Scotland Yard added: "He alleged that a group of males surrounded his car in Great Russell Street and attacked him, stealing his watch."

Nobody has been arrested over the claim but police are still investigating.

Stoke City made no comment on Berahino's arrest but it is likely he will be dealt with internally under the Championship club's disciplinary policy.
