Having a nice hot summer seems to be becoming a further distant dream with the long period of showers many parts of the country have been experiencing in June.

Early forecasts also seem to signal very little change in the poor conditions over the coming days. However, the Met Office has given a hint to when we can't start the weather to improve slightly.

The weather agency has highlighted that the weekend will see more frequent showers alongside longer periods of rainfall. Despite this, it seems that temperatures could get warmer and conditions sunnier in just a few days.

Stephen Dixon, Met Office spokesperson, said: "Low pressure is in charge of the UK’s weather this weekend, with frequent showers and some longer spells of rain for some, especially in the north of the country. For Manchester, there will be some drier interludes in the weekend at times, though it’s an unsettled theme with temperatures generally below average for the time of year.

"There is a signal for the possibility of some drier weather in the latter part of next week and a gradual ticking up of temperatures more towards average, though it’s important to note that there are no signs of an imminent heatwave in the current forecast period."

In its long-range forecast for the latter half of June, the Met Office highlighted that temperatures will "likely be close to or slightly above average" - a significant improvement over the below-average temperatures many parts of the country have been experiencing the past week. It added that current forecasts indicate a higher chance of milder conditions, with some places being much drier than other.

As we move further to the end of the month, it seems all areas "can expected to see some spells of drier, sunnier weather, but there will also be showers or longer spells of rain at times."
