Stranger Things creators reveal which films inspired season 3 as new details roll in

The creators of Stranger Things have shared new details about the forthcoming third season of their hit Netflix show.

Matt and Ross Duffer are months away from unveiling the next batch of episodes that’ll transport viewers back to Hawkins, Indiana for what they’re describing as both an “unapologetically fun” and “horrifying” season yet.

To whet fans’ appetites, they’ve revealed which films they looked to for inspiration when crafting the next run – and it seems it’ll be a merging of the high school comedy and body horror genres.

“It’s this wild mix of tones that we think really sets this season apart,” they told Entertainment Weekly.

The films the brothers looked to for inspiration included:

Fast Times at Ridgemont High

The Thing

Romancing the Stone

Midnight Run

Indiana Jones

Jurassic Park

The films of David Cronenberg (Dead Ringers, Videodrome, Scanners, etc)

The first and second seasons were inspired by ET and Aliens, respectively.

Stranger Things returns to Netflix on 4 July.
