Police say that they have noticed an increase in anti-social behaviour (ASB) in one area of Bristol. ASB and traffic issues have been noted in Bedminster, particularly around East Street and North Street.

The Greater Bedminster Neighbourhood Policing Team has updated its priorities for the local area after street drinking and begging was reported along the two streets. Avon and Somerset Police also confirmed that it will work with Bristol City Council and parking services to reduce ASB and traffic issues.

Several cases of ASB have been reported to police with examples including people being drunk in public spaces, ASB from youths and people being abusive to members of the public. Police also said that it has received reports of loud and erratic shouting, illegal parking and insulting behaviour towards the public.

In a further post on Sunday, June 16, police noted that street drinking and begging was especially prominent outside Aldi on North Street. It confirmed that action will be taken against those who are “regular perpetrators”.

The full post on June 16 said: “The Beat team [neighbourhood policing team] are fully aware of the ongoing street drinking and begging along East and North Street. It is mainly outside Aldi North Street .

“The team look to liaise with the Street Intervention Service, and Bristol City Council, whereby they submit referrals in a bid to find short and long term solutions to this issue. The neighbourhood policing team will be taking action against regular perpetrators using evidence provided by the community.”

PC Olszewski added: “This anti-social behaviour has a negative effect, not only to local pedestrians and residents but it also attracts other anti-social and illegal activities, which compounds the issues police have to deal with.”
