Bobby Brazier's showbiz success as he follows in late mum Jade Goody's footsteps

Bobby Brazier has said he doesn’t have many memories of his late mum Jade Goody, as she died when he was just five.

The 20-year-old has also previously said he didn’t miss Goody because he wasn’t with her “long enough”, telling The Face that he missed “what could have been”.

However, he certainly seems to have inherited his desire for the spotlight from the Big Brother star - who sadly died in 2009 aged 27 after battling cervical cancer.

Speaking as he and dad Jeff Brazier go on Celebrity Gogglebox’s Stand Up To Cancer episode, he said: “I think that as a kid it's all I wanted. I was desperate for that when I was younger. I spent so much time making myself ready because I started to believe that could happen and I could have that.”

The Brazier father and son duo are now going on the show for Goody.

Jeff said it is a cause that is "incredibly close" to their hearts.

"We understand first-hand the impact cancer has on families," he added, saying they hoped "to inspire others to stand up to cancer with us".

It's the latest in series of TV shows for Bobby Brazier, who has made quite the mark in the entertainment world in the last couple of years.

Modelling

The youngster got his start in the modelling world after apparently being scouted on his way to school as a 16-year-old.

Proud dad Jeff told The Sun in 2019: “He's signed up with a model agency because he had quite a few that wanted to take him on, and he hasn't done anything yet, but you know, that will be interesting to see what happens for him.”

The teenager went on to work for the likes of Dolce & Gabbana and Tommy Hilfiger and walked the runway at catwalk shows.

He also appeared in magazines such as MMScene and Man About Town.

Brazier in EastEnders

While modelling was going well, Bobby also had an eye on acting.

In 2022, it was announced that he had landed the role of Freddie Slater, the son of Little Mo (Kacey Ainsworth), in EastEnders.

“Stepping into the acting world has always been a vision of mine and doing that with EastEnders as a Slater is a blessing, I’m very grateful,” he said as the part was announced.

He made his Walford debut later that year and quickly won over viewers, going on to clinch the coveted Rising Star at the 28th National Television Awards.

Jeff shared a shot on Instagram showing them together after the ceremony, saying it was the “sweetest of feelings”.

“The recognition that a good attitude, kind heart and open mind can take you so far in just a year,” he wrote.

“Thank you to each and every one of the Eastenders cast and crew for their kindness, support and guidance towards Bobby.

“I couldn’t have left feeling any more assured that he works amongst countless inspirations.”

Strictly

Then this year it was confirmed that Bobby would be taking to the Strictly dancefloor.

He admitted he hasn’t watched the BBC ballroom contest before. He told The Mirror: “I’ve never watched the show, so I’ll be coming in fresh!”

But it doesn’t seem to have held him back, with Bobby and his pro partner Dianne Buswell consistently turning in decent scores.

Many have tipped the star to go all the way in the competition and will end up with his hands on the Glitterball trophy.

Life off-screen

Despite all his success, Bobby still has to do chores when he’s at home, with Jeff saying it’s important he stays grounded.

“As much as Bobby's a dancer on Strictly these days, when he comes home, there's a wash in the tumble dryer that I want him to fold up, or I want him to help me to make dinner,” he told OK!

“I need to make sure Bob has a balance and doesn't necessarily let himself float away,” he added.

The Braziers will be on Celebrity Gogglebox on 3 November at 8.30pm and 9.30pm on Channel 4.
