Chris Ramsey and Karen Hauer are the latest couple to leave Strictly Come Dancing.

The comedian and his professional partner missed out on a spot in the final after competing in a dance off with Karim Zeroual and Amy Dowden.

Ramsey and Hauer performed their rumba to Don’t Watch Me Cry by Jorja Smith in a bid to impress the judges on Sunday night’s results show, while Zeroual and Dowden reprised their American Smooth to Neil Diamond’s Sweet Caroline.

The judges then opted to save Zeroual and Dowden, with Motsi Mabuse describing their routine as “even better” the second time around.

Bruno Tonioli thanked Ramsey for “three months of great dancing and entertainment” before backing Zeroual as “the best dancer.”

Though head judge Shirley Ballas did not have to use her deciding vote as the rest of the panel were in agreement, she said that she too would have saved the CBBC presenter, who became the first contestant of the series to receive a perfect score of 40 earlier this month.

Ramsey said that he was “very proud” of his record on the show and joked that he “never ever thought [he] would make it past week two.”

“Genuinely I had no expectations whatsoever, I am astounded and I’ve got to thank Karen, she is just amazing and is just amazing and so patient, it’s crazy!” he added.

“She is awesome. I had sleepless nights in the build up and there is no-one else who can have made it what it has been.”

Hauer described their time on the show as “a giggle fest” and praised her partner as “an amazing family man who I admire.”

“I appreciated you literally from week one, not knowing how to walk, and now you are a semi-finalist,” she said. “You have made all of us proud and have inspired all of us.”

Zeroual and Dowden will compete in next week’s grand final alongside Kelvin Fletcher and Motsi Mabuse, who received their first score of 40 on Saturday night’s show, and Emma Barton and Anton Du Beke.

The results show saw the Royal Ballet’s former principal guest artist Carlos Acosta join the Strictly professionals for a special performance, while former One Direction star Niall Horan treated the audience to a rendition of his new single.

Strictly Come Dancing continues on BBC One on December 14.
