Comedian Susan Calman has hit back at online trolls who made insulting comments about her weight and looks.

Calman, who is gearing up for Strictly Come Dancing, posted a sassy gif of Beyonce flicking her hair as she called out the body shamers.

“I don't often interact with trolls but occasionally I do,” she tweeted.

“For years I thought I was fat and ugly. I'm not. And I won't let anyone say I am.”

Calman said she is taking part in Strictly to prove to her niece that she should never allow someone to body shame her.

She tweeted: “I have a 5 year old niece. I want her to know that no one (man or woman) should make her feel bad about how she looks. Strictly is for her.”

She finished: “Anyway, I'm off to rehearse with a handsome man, preparing a beautiful dance for the biggest show on television. Suck on that haters.”

Calman was inundated with support from fans who praised her for standing up to the abuse.

One tweeted: “You're brilliant and gorgeous and hilarious and I want you to win Strictly more than I want to eat cake every day. That's a LOT.”

Another commented: “You have a real beauty. It shines out of you and cheers us all up.”

It comes weeks after she lashed out at a troll who questioned her style after she posted a picture of herself in her Strictly get-up, and wrote: “I scrub up not too bad.”

One user replied: “But I've just been listening to you on radio iPlayer banging on about loving brogues and tweeds! Which is it?!?”

She hit back, saying she can be “both a kick ass time travelling lesbian and a bombshell in a dress”.

The post was liked by J. K. Rowling who told her to “stay fabulous, my dancing queen”.
