Strictly Come Dancing to pay tribute to Barbie during Movie Week

Strictly Come Dancing will pay homage to Barbie in its eagerly anticipated Movie Week.

The themed week – always one of the highlights of the BBC ballroom contest – sees the celebs celebrating the magic of the movies.

This year the professionals will take a trip to Barbie Land in a nod to the hit film starring Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling.

And there will also be a tribute to mark 100 years of Disney.

When it comes to the performances, Angela Rippon and Kai Widdrington will be throwing it back to one of the classics with a quickstep to Do-Re-Mi from The Sound Of Music.

Krishnan Guru-Murthy and Lauren Oakley will also be going old school, with a Charleston to Money Money from Cabaret, while Layton Williams and Nikita Kuzmin will treat judge Shirley Ballas and co to a Viennese Waltz to There Are Worse Things I Could Do from Grease.

Adam Thomas and Luba Mushtuk will be dancing a jive to Take On Me from The Super Mario Bros Movie, another of this year’s big silver screen hits. They won’t be the only pair doing the jive, with Nigel Harman and Katya Jones and Nikita Kanda and Gorka Márquez also tackling the dance.

Ellie Leach and Vito Coppola will dance to a song from Encanto, but it won’t have anything to do with Bruno – they will be performing the Viennese Waltz to Waiting On A Miracle.

Other movies in the mix include Bridget Jones, Romeo And Juliet and Men In Black.

Strictly Movie Week kicks off on Saturday 7 October from 6.20pm on BBC One and BBC iPlayer.
