Strong Winds Reverse Tide in Cape Town

Strong winds reversed the tide in Cape Town, South Africa, on Sunday, April 7, as a level 6 warning for “damaging interior wind” was issued for the region.

Footage filmed by Darren Sheer shows waves being pushed toward the ocean rather than the shore in Three Anchor Bay, a suburb of Cape Town, on Sunday.

“The winds were so strong that it turned the tides backward,” Sheer told Storyful.

According to local forecasters, flooding, thunderstorms and “damage to infrastructure, property and small vessels” was possible in the area due to strong winds. Credit: Darren Sheer via Storyful
