A teacher has been left horrified by the name a set of parents gave their child.

It's difficult to come up with the perfect name for a baby, but some parents go down the more non-traditional route when pickking a moniker for their baby. In this case, one child was given the name Onesty.

But the child's teacher was left with some concerns. Taking to Reddit, she said: "First day of class, I got to her name on the roll and took a moment to decipher it. I think I was about to try something along the line of 'oh-NEST-ee'.

"I kind of started with my attempt. Suddenly this super sweet girl says, from the back of the room, 'It’s Honesty.'"

The anonymous teacher admitted she managed to stop herself from blurting out: "Oh, I'm sorry," upon hearing the name and spared the child's feelings. She added: "I realised it could be interpreted as 'I’m sorry for the ridiculous name your parents gave you'. Instead, I smiled, thanked her, and moved on."

Commenting on the name, one user said: "Kinda ironic that her parents named her Honesty and chose to spell it in a misleading way." Another user added: "There was a student at my school also named Honesty but spelled it Ah’Nesty." A third user said: "On-NEST-ee sounds like a prescription."

One more user added: "Some of you guys are also just terrible at guessing the intent behind the names. Obviously it is supposed to be pronounced Honesty and an idiot parent came up with it. But it's not rocket science to guess the intent.

"I agree – what a terrible name. Just give your kids normal names. But let's not act all confused at the slightest deviation from the norm. Something can be terrible and still easily interpreted as to what is meant by it."
