A tiny island off the coast of the UK became the background to a massive TV production.

The Welsh island of Anglesey became Westeros for the second instalment of House of the Dragon, the prequel to the iconic Game of Thrones series, set around two centuries before the original saga.

The production team descended upon Wales for a five-week shoot last year, and afterwards, executive producer Kevin de la Noy expressed his enthusiasm about their time there. He said: "It was great to be shooting in Wales with its stunning scenery and landscapes, that bring to life our Westeros.

"I had no hesitation in taking House of the Dragon there... and we were blessed with the most glorious weather too. Thank you, Wales!"

Anglesey, an island off the northwest coast of Wales and just two hours from Liverpool, created the perfect backdrop during the shoot.

Last year, Steve Toussaint, who portrays Corlys Velaryon, was seen filming in Penmon village. Additionally, some sharp-eyed hikers later observed an army donning Aegon II Targaryen's golden-dragon emblem being filmed in Beaumaris.

Other sightings included shoots on Llanddwyn Beach, which is rumoured to be the setting for the 'Sowing of the Dragonseeds' event, where Targaryen descendants vie for dragons. These sequences are expected to feature in an upcoming episode.

A particularly poignant scene was captured at Porth y Cwch in Anglesey, depicting the aftermath of Lucerys Velaryon's demise from the previous season, with his body arriving ashore at Shipbreaker Bay.

Anglesey's coastline, recognised as an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, boasts sandy beaches on its eastern coast and sharp cliffs with small bays to the north.

The island's natural beauty makes it an ideal filming location and a fantastic destination for day trips or short breaks. Historical sites such as Beaumaris Castle, the Dingle Nature Reserve, and Plas Newydd House and Gardens are among its attractions.

With numerous beaches and coastal walks, Anglesey is a perfect spot for families and solo travellers alike - plus, you might recognise some locations from your favourite show.
