Pop-music lovers came out in such numbers to see Sugababes at the Glastonbury Festival that some fans couldn't even get a glimpse of the girl group. The band, who were one of the first female pop bands to play on the main stage, took to the West Holts stage today (Friday, June 28) playing their biggest hits to a truly packed-out crowd.

While revellers have been at the festival since Tuesday, musical acts only began their sets today and there truly is something for everyone at one of the world's largest music festivals. Friday is the night for lovers of pop music, female pop in particular, with Dua Lipa headlining on the Pyramid stage later this evening - after crowds poured in to try and catch a glimpse of the Sugababes.

In scenes similar to Busted's set at Download earlier this month, fans couldn't get close enough to see the 'Overload' singers perform - though they could hear them. One such fan told SomersetLive they sounded "incredible", even from a distance.

"I'm really surprised at the turnout, it's awesome. They're a classic, aren't they. Everyone knows them, everyone recognises them. In a year that maybe the line up isn't as strong as other years, it's one of those bands that everybody knows and everybody just wants to go and see. And we're stood outside the main bit but we can still hear them and they sound incredible."

They girl group played some of their most popular hits including 'Too Lost in You', 'Red Dress' and 'Freak Like Me'. Another fan, at the edge of the crowd said he and a friend had tried to go in but grew "overwhelmed" and headed back out. He added that he had lost his Sugababes 'super-fan' boyfriend somewhere in the crowd.

"He is probably the biggest fan of the Sugababes," he said. "This will be his 24th or 25th time - last year he broke his ankle and was going to see the Sugababes and he couldn't get disabled seating, he'd already got a standing pass. So he messages Siobhán [Donaghy] on Instagram, just on the off-chance he could get disabled seating and she was like 'don't worry, I'm on it'. It was the greatest moment of his life!"

"This has got to be the biggest gig of their lives, I can't believe how many people are here," he added.

Another group of fans told SomersetLive they had travelled all the way from Ireland for the festival and seeing the 90s band was a "highlight". When asked how long they'd been fans they said: "Forever. Forever and ever and ever!

"Since they started in the 90s. We're 90s babies. We've seen them [live] a few times, we saw them last year in Ireland." They added they'd travelled all the way from Ireland "for the whole vibe". "They're obviously a highlight but it's for everyone. For the vibes!"
