The UK is finally set for some sunny and warmer weather this week after Storm Antoni battered parts of the UK with high-speed gusts and heavy rain.

On Saturday, homes were evacuated in parts of North Yorkshire as the storm brought heavy flooding, while winds of 78mph were measured at Berry Head in Devon.

Conditions started to settle on Sunday and are expected to pick up, with the Met Office forecasting temperatures of 25C and even 28C later in the week.

It would be the first time the UK has seen highs of 25C or above since 8 July, with August getting off to an underwhelming start.

However, this week's sunny spell is expected to be short-lived, with cloudy and rainy conditions expected to return by the weekend.

Monday

Scotland, Northern Ireland and the north of England are expected to see a mixture of sunny spells and scattered showers on Monday, Met Office meteorologist Simon Partridge told Yahoo News.

He said maximum temperatures were expected to reach 18C in Scotland and Northern Ireland and 19C in Northern England.

Conditions will be mostly dry with some isolated showers in Wales and the Midlands, the South West and South East, with maximum temperatures of around 20C to 21C in the South East and 19C to 20C in other regions.

Tuesday

"Tuesday is the most disappointing day of the week, but not for too long," said Partridge, with southern regions expected to bear the brunt.

Scotland is expected to enjoy bright and sunny spells with some showers, with maximum temperatures of around 18C, while Northern Ireland will remain mostly dry with highs of 19C.

Conditions will be rather cloudy with patchy rain during the start of the day in northern England but will get sunnier and later on, with hights of 20C in parts of the North East.

It will be a similar outlook for South West England and Wales, with plenty of cloud, mist and hill fog, setting the scene for "quite a murky kind of day", said Partridge. This should make it feel humid and muggy, with highs of 19C to 20C in both areas.

The South East and East of England will start off dry before conditions get cloudier during the day, with plenty of drizzle and maximum temperatures of 20C to 21C.

Wednesday

Besides some small patches of rain in the west of the country, Scotland will have a mostly dry Wednesday with some sunny spells, and highs of 20C to 21C.

Northern Ireland is also expecting similar conditions with patchy rain later in the day, with max temperatures of 21C to 22C.

The rest of England is set for dry and sunny spells, with highs of 20C to 21C in the North, 22C to 23C in Wales, 23C to 24C in the Midlands and South West, and 24C to 25C in the South East.

Thursday

This will be the warmest day of the week for most of the country, particularly in Wales and the South East of England, which are expected to see highs of 27C to 28C.

The North East and Midlands are set for temperatures of up to 26C to 27C, compared to 24C to 25C in Scotland and the South West, and 23C to 24C in Northern Ireland.

Rest of the week

"We're not massive on details for Friday, but we are expecting a band of rain to move eastwards through the morning that will, unfortunately, move all of the warm air from the UK," Partridge said.

This, he added, should more or less bring the country back to similar conditions as the weekend just gone, with temperatures of 20C to 22C, and a mixture of sunny spells and scattered showers.
