Sun Spot: NASA Film Of Massive Solar Flare

NASA has captured pictures of a monster solar flare erupting on the surface of the Sun.

Solar material can be seen blasting into space in the first major solar flare of the year.

The film shows a 90-minute discharge and a ribbon of material lifting off the surface of the Sun.

The X-Class flare is the strongest category of sun storms and can cause disruption to radio and satellite signals on Earth.

However, the intense emissions of radiation cannot penetrate the atmosphere.
