Jennifer Lopez and Shakira will headline the 2020 Super Bowl halftime show.

Both singers announced the news on social media on Thursday.

“Going to set the world on [fire],” Lopez wrote, while Shakira wrote: ”It doesn’t get any bigger than this! So excited about getting on that #SuperBowlLIV #PepsiHalftime stage!”

The National Football League confirmed on Thursday that both singers will perform on 2 February, 2020 at the Hard Rock Stadium in Miami Gardens, Florida.

Lopez is fresh off an acclaimed performance in Hustlers, the September 2019 film in which she portrays a stripper who takes part in a scheme to steal money from rich clients while they’re drunk and/or high.

She also just caused a sensation by walking in the Versace show at Milan Fashion Week in a replica of the famous green dress she wore to the 2000 Grammys, which prompted the creation of Google Images.

Shakira released her most recent album, El Dorado, in 2017, and will release a concert film based on the corresponding tour on 13 November.

“I can’t wait to show what us girls can do on the world’s biggest stage,” Lopez said in a statement.

Shakira called the opportunity a “true American dream” and promised to “bring the show of a lifetime”.

Both women have built careers in film and music and delivered chart-topping hits.

Shakira’s debut album, Magia, came out in 1991. The 2001 Laundry Service, which includes tracks such as “Whenever, Wherever” and “Underneath Your Clothes” generated multi-platinum sales.

Lopez’s debut, On the 6, was released in 1999. Her most successful songs include “If You Had My Love”, “Jenny From the Block” and “On the Floor”.

Last year's show was headlined by Maroon 5. Lady Gaga, Katy Perry, Madonna and Prince have all performed during the halftime show in past events.
