Avatar: The Last Airbender star Yvonne Chapman has been cast in the final season of Superman & Lois.

The actress, who played Avatar Kyoshi in the hit Netflix show, will become Amanda McCoy in the comic book series' fourth instalment (via Entertainment Weekly).

The recurring character — who is described as "intelligent, cunning and loyal" — will be Lex Luthor's (Michael Cudlitz) trusted ally in his long-running vendetta against Superman (Tyler Hoechlin) and Lois Lane (Elizabeth Tulloch).

"Little is known about her mysterious past, but she's the only one in Luthor's inner circle that he views as an equal, which makes her a massive threat to the Kents... and anyone else who stands in her way," reads Amanda's official character description.

As per the comics, Amanda is the acting leader of LuthorCorp in Lex's absence, with her business-forward and cutthroat nature making waves in the company.

Although a minor character, Amanda was notably one of the only people to discover Superman's secret identity — before informing Lex of her findings. However, Lex couldn't believe that Superman would choose to live as a human, so fired Amanda and ignored her intel.

If the comics are anything to go by, the new addition is likely to spell trouble for Clark and Lois in the upcoming final season, which will be shortened to just 10 episodes.

The CW Network's president, Brad Schwartz, confirmed the show's conclusion in a statement last year.

"Over the last three seasons, Superman & Lois redefined both the superhero genre and family drama as Tyler, Elizabeth and the entire cast effortlessly portrayed these classic characters with new layers of depth and complexity that had never before been explored in the Superman universe," he said (via Variety).

"As Superman embarks on his final flight, the team is leaving us with an absolutely epic 10-episode must-watch-every-minute farewell to one of the most legendary CW families ever."

Superman & Lois airs on The CW in the US, and on BBC One and BBC iPlayer in the UK.
