Supernatural's 300th episode will be an hour-long Easter egg for fans - with fans of Castiel perhaps getting the biggest treat of all.

The celebratory instalment features familiar faces like Dean and Sam's father John Winchester (Jeffrey Dean Morgan) and the angel Zachariah (Kurt Fuller) reappearing when Dean is granted a wish that changes reality.

Another trippy side effect of this wish is that it completely changes Castiel (Misha Collins) too! Speaking to Entertainment Weekly, Misha hinted that viewers can literally expect a blast from the past.

"In the 300th episode, we really are kind of reincarnating an earlier version of Castiel," he teased. "[It's the] Castiel that we knew from season four, season five."

That will mean Misha is going back to his classic wardrobe, which is having to be remade because he's been on "this show for so long that the ties have literally disintegrated".

While Misha loved playing the gruffer version of the angel for one episode, the actor admitted he's satisfied with how Castiel has evolved over the years.

"It was actually interesting to get to play that again because I realized just how un-fun Castiel used to be,” Collins joked. “He’s a real pain in the ass, so I’m kind of glad that Cas has evolved to where he is now.”

This special 300th episode, titled Lebanon, will be premiering on US screens on Thursday, February 7.

Supernatural season 14 continues Thursdays on The CW. The series airs on E4 in the UK.
