Shots. Fired. Microsoft just lobbed a piping hot, tablet-sized dose of shade at Apple's iPad Pro, and it's delicious.

Microsoft on Tuesday posted a new commercial on YouTube in which the Surface Pro 4 and Cortana take on the iPad Pro and Siri, with Cortana running down a list of its features. Predictably, the voice of Siri stumbles through the commercial as it comes up short (in Microsoft's estimation) on every point made by Cortana.

Aside from recreating the "I'm a Mac, I'm a PC" dynamic of past commercials (this time using software assistants instead of actors), the spot does a great job pointing out that the Surface runs a robust, desktop-style OS (Windows 10 Pro) versus a mobile OS (iOS). Oh, and the ad takes a couple of choice shots at the fact that Apple followed Microsoft's lead by adding a keyboard to the iPad after Surface did it.

Does this mean the iPad Pro isn't as good as the Surface Pro 4? Not quite. But the fact that Microsoft can even mount this argument with any credibility (and it does have credibility) proves that the iPad can't assume the same success as the iPhone in terms of competing in the mobile space.

The Surface is finally a mature device, users are beginning to come around to it, and this commercial is just the latest indication that the tablet wars are far from over.
