Surfer rides giant waves in the middle of the desert

A surfer found herself a real oasis as she rode an 11ft wave - in the middle of the scorching Arabian desert.

Sally Fitzgibbons put her body through its paces in a specially-designed wave pool built in Dubai.

She braved 50 degree heat to show off her skills in this incredible promo stunt in the Wadi Adventure pool, the first man-made whitewater rafting, kayaking and surf centre.

Sally, 21, said: "It's a wild experience sitting in the scorching hot desert in a pool staring at this concrete wall waiting for your next wave to fire out at you.

"It definitely brought to life one of those dreams you have when you're a grom [beginner surfer] - endless amounts of waves all to yourself."

Aussie Sally finished a close second in this year's Women's World Tour surfing competition.

Her display, sponsored by drinks' giant Red Bull, marks the start of a five-part series of web videos featuring the beautiful beach babe.
