Surfers Take Advantage of Storm Ciara's Storm Surge in Cornwall, England

Surfers in Cornwall took advantage of Storm Ciara’s strong surge on Sunday, February 9, by riding sizable waves in Bude as spectators watched from Nanny Moore’s Bridge.

Resident Paul Pearse shared this video of the stunt which, according to local media, is not uncommon in Cornwall.

Storm Ciara brought severe winds and heavy rain to large parts of the UK on Sunday, downing trees and cutting power to thousands of residents. The UK’s Met Office said the strongest wind gust recorded on Sunday was 97 mph at Needles Battery on the Isle of Wight. Credit: Paul Pearse via Storyful
