Candy, a five-year-old white and black female cat, and Kane, a four-year-old white male cat, were taken into the care of RSPCA Millbrook Animal Centre in Chobham, Surrey, on 18 March. Their previous owner was unable to look after them due to personal circumstances.

The friendly pair are fond of human company and enjoy curling up on laps for some fuss and attention.

Kane has very limited vision and is almost blind. Vets believe he can only see light and movement and that he was likely born this way.

Despite his visual impairment, once familiar with his surroundings, he navigates quite well.

Sue Walters, Manager at RSPCA Millbrook, expressed her concern: "This pair are so lovely but sadly we haven't had any interest in them whatsoever."

"We think it's because we are looking for a special home together where Candy can have outdoor access and Kane can be an indoor-cat, which can be achieved easily with a microchip cat flap, or a home where they are both given access to a safe and secure outdoor catio."

"We really hope we can find the perfect home for these cats as although they both have different needs, they are incredibly bonded and Kane is often guided by Candy."

"We'd also like to find a home with little changes so we're looking for owners who are quite happy to keep their furniture and other items around the home in the same place so that Kane can get used to his surroundings and know his way around without getting confused as his sight is so limited."

With Euro 2024 in full swing, the centre is also hoping that the allure of Harry Kane's celebrity status will help attract more potential adopters.

Sue said: "We know many people across Surrey will be hoping that football comes home this summer, thanks to Harry Kane and his England team-mates! But at the centre, our goal is to find a home for our very own Kane and his favourite strike partner Candy! ".

Candy and Kane share an inseparable bond; they are often seen grooming each other, cuddling up, and sharing meals, which is why they must be adopted together. They would fit well into a family with older, calmer children of junior school age and should be the only pets in their new home.

If you're interested in giving Candy and Kane the loving home they need, please get in touch with RSPCA Millbrook Animal Centre at millbrook@rspca.org.uk or call 0300 123 0740.

This heartfelt plea for adoption comes at a time when the RSPCA is encouraging the public to adopt rather than buy pets. With rescue centres at capacity, the charity has seen a dramatic increase in animals placed in private boarding, costing around £500,000 a month.

As it marks its bicentenary, the RSPCA, the oldest animal welfare charity, is facing what it describes as an 'animal welfare crisis'. The cost of living crisis is exacerbating the situation, with animals arriving faster than they can be rehomed.

Presently, over 1,400 animals are in private boarding awaiting space in RSPCA centres.
