A Surrey teacher who has only been in the profession for a year has been nominated to be Teacher of the Year. Mr Charles who teaches at Holmesdale Community Infant School, in Reigate has been nominated by multiple students for Collection Pot’s Teacher of The Year competition.

He is known amongst teachers and students for his sensitive approach to teaching and for dressing up in fun costumes to keep his class entertained.

Felix Black who is in Mr Charles’ Year One Class, was among the children who nominated Mr Charles. He said: "This year has been Mr Charles’ first ever year as a teacher and his class (Dragonflies) all feel SO lucky we got to have him for year 1.

“He is the kindest person in the world and makes us feel happy every day. He chooses to sit with us every Friday for lunch and my friend Grace said he was the person she was most looking forward to seeing at the start of term!

“Every morning he welcomes us with a smiley face and funny joke. We all love going to school because of him and he told me he spends his free time thinking of fun things for us to do in class together.” Mr Charles is known for taking the time to get to know his students and going above and beyond to make learning fun.

“Over the Easter holidays he made everyone in the class a special book filled with their favourite things to look at and colour in, and he makes us laugh all the time,” said Felix.

“We wish he could always be our teacher and feel so lucky we’ve been his first class. He’s a super-teacher and we want everyone in the world to know how great he is!” Mr Charles is one of many teachers who have been nominated for Collections Pot’s Teacher of the Year 2024 competition.

This competition aims to celebrate the exceptional dedication of teachers, teaching assistants, support staff, and headteachers in schools across the nation. The national winner will be named on July 5th.

Collection Pot has £1500 in prizes to give away benefiting not only the winning teacher, but also their school and the student who nominated them.

The winning nomination will receive:
