Susanna Reid dropped by Ben Shephard on live TV after ‘too much black forest gateau’

Ben Shephard dropped Susanna Reid as they attempted a Strictly Come Dancing lift on Good Morning Britain.

Andi Peters challenged the pair to show off their best moves – but it didn’t quite go to plan.

Putting his hands on Reid’s waist, Shephard said: “Andi wanted to see a lift, so here you go!”

Reid shrieked as she was hoisted into the air before Shephard buckled and the pair fell backwards onto the sofa.

Reid – whose legs flew up in the air – cried: “Oh my goodness.”

Holding onto his back, Shephard joked: “I think I’ve put my back out.”

Les Dennis, who was on the show to promote his role as Uncle Fester in a touring production of The Addams Family, said: “If that was your audition for Strictly – I don’t think you’re going to get that.”

Reid later joked that Shephard couldn’t keep her in the air because she’d eaten “too much black forest gateau”.

Viewers found the incident amusing with one referencing Shephard’s game show Tipping Point: “You can see why Ben presents Tipping Point. He nearly reached it.”

Another suggested: “Could be a new round for Ninja Warrior UK.”

A third tweeted: “Piers Morgan isn't going to be best pleased (sic).”

Reid recently opened up about her relationship with Morgan and said they have a “good TV ‘marriage’”.

Speaking to the Daily Mirror she said: “I enjoy how viewers react to my relationship with Piers on the sofa.

“It’s evolving – like any good TV ‘marriage’.

“He winds me up no end, but I also like him. It’s an impossible-to-predict recipe of mutual respect, irritation, frustration & admiration but it works.”

Good Morning Britain is on ITV weekdays at 6am.
