Suspect Asks Court To Remove 'Murder' Tattoo

A Kansas man who has been charged with first degree murder wants to remove a large tattoo on his neck which he claims might prejudice a jury.

Jeffrey Chapman has asked Barton County District Court to allow a professional tattoo artist to remove the message - which spells out "murder" backwards across his throat.

Chapman is due to go on trial on Monday, April 28, over the 2011 killing of Damon Galliart whose body was found by hunters near Great Bend.

The Great Bend Tribune reports that prosecutors are not against the tattoo request.

However, Barton County's sheriff says Chapman cannot be transported from prison to a tattoo artist.

And Kansas law states that tattoo artists "shall not practice at any location other than a licensed facility".
