Suspect in Neosho shooting remains at large

Jan. 25—NEOSHO, Mo. — A suspect being sought in the shooting of another man Tuesday night in Neosho purportedly tried to hit the victim with his vehicle after shooting him twice in the arm.

A probable-cause affidavit filed with assault charges on 21-year-old Jose Rivera-Maldonado states that the suspect pulled up to an address in the 800 block of Riverside Drive and fired four shots at Fredy Rodriguez, 40. Rodriguez was struck in his left arm by two of the rounds.

Rivera-Maldonado then allegedly tried to hit Rodriguez with his vehicle as he was fleeing the scene, according to the affidavit. Police continued looking Thursday for Rivera-Maldonado, who is facing charges of first-degree assault and armed criminal action.

Rodriguez was taken initially to the hospital in Neosho before being transferred to Freeman Hospital West in Joplin, according to police.

Rodriguez and Rivera were well acquainted, according to the affidavit.

The document does not provide any motive for the shooting.
