Suspect sought in Neosho street shooting

Jan. 24—NEOSHO, Mo. — The victim of a shooting Tuesday night in Neosho was reported to be in stable condition Wednesday while police continued to look for the man believed to have shot him.

A news release stated that police were called at 7:29 p.m. to the 800 block of Riverside Drive regarding the shooting of a man later identified as 40-year-old Fredy Rodriguez.

Rodriguez, who was shot in his left arm and armpit, had been taken to Freeman Neosho Hospital by family members before the arrival of officers. Rodriguez was treated there before being transferred to Freeman Hospital West in Joplin, where he was reported to be in stable condition Wednesday.

An investigation of the shooting developed a 21-year-old male acquaintance of the victim, Jose Rivera, as the suspect in the shooting. Rivera, of Neosho, had fled the scene by the time police were called. Charges of first-degree assault and armed criminal action have been filed and a warrant issued for his arrest.
