Suspended ‘Sky Pool’ In Indian City Set To Beat London Development

While developers in London claim to be building the world’s first ‘sky pool’, a suspended swimming pool is already being built in India.

According to Dezeen, the glass-bottomed pool will link two residential blocks at the Twilight Star development in Surat, Gujarat.

The pool will measure 20 x 7m and will be completely transparent, just like the design at London’s Nine Elms sky pool.

However, the Surat pool will be even higher that London’s effort - on the 12th floor, rather than the 10th.

While the two designs are similar, the Indian version also includes protrudes outwards from the buildings, so that residents can ‘float’ over the city streets below.

Construction is reportedly already underway and is scheduled for completion in 2016, a year before the London-based project is due to be finished.

The five-tower Surat development is the work of local firm 7 Star and is set to produce 120 new homes.

The elevated pool will be constructed using technology similar to what is used for building large aquarium tunnels.
