'Suspicious' man approached Gloucestershire schoolgirls and asked if they had boyfriends

A man approached two schoolgirls and asked for their social media accounts before offering them jewellery, police have said. The man, who is thought to be in his 20s, claimed he was 17-years-old to the girls and asked if they had boyfriends.

Gloucestershire Police said both girls were wearing school uniforms and were approached by a silver van in The Bulwarks, Minchinhampton. The passenger of the van came up to one of the girls at around 3.40pm on Thursday, April 18 and asked if they were in a relationship, as well as asking for the details of their social media accounts of one of the girls.

He then asked the same of the other girl, before offering her earrings. Police say he told the girls he was 17 but was described as being in his early 20s.

Gloucestershire Police is appealing for information in connection to the incident, describing the circumstances as "suspicious". The man who approached the girls is described as in his early 20s and was wearing clothes "similar to an Argos uniform". The van driver is thought to be of a similar age to his passenger.

The force said in a community alert: "If you have any further information about this incident, we’d like to hear from you. Please complete the following online form quoting incident 308 from April 18, 2024.
