This stunning image of a Spitfire-shaped cloud was captured just days after the world commemorated the VE Day anniversary.

Amateur photographer and dog walker Gary Prescod took the striking image while out in Sunderland.

The image was shared 60,000 times and viewed four million times on social media as described by Gary as a ‘great tribute’ to the 70th anniversary of VE Day.

In response to comments that claim the image was edited, he said: 'There is very little Photoshop editing to this other than colour and contrast adjustments.'

The image has captured the hearts of the UK’s military personnel – with copies of the photo being purchased and donated to various RAF bases throughout the country.

Thousands of the British-made fighter planes helped win the Battle of Britain and played a significant role in nearly every theatre of conflict during the Second World War.
