Syracuse shooting: Five people including a child, eight, shot in Syracuse, New York
Five people, including an eight-year-old girl, have been shot in Syracuse, up state New York, police said.
Officers in Syracuse said they responded to a shooting at about 9pm (local time), on Thursday night, and found multiple people with gunshot wounds.
The extent of those injured or details how they came to be injured has not been released yet.
According to local reports, many people had gathered to celebrate the life of a relative who had recently died of cancer, before the shooting.

Tammy Jamison said she was gathered for a memorial before gunshots broke out, Syracuse.com reported.
She said she tried to take cover inside, saying: “When the shooting started, I ducked.”
The website also reported several ambulance crews being called to the scene, with some individuals being taken to hospital.
Syracuse Police Chief Frank Fowler said: "This is a very tragic event. This is something that cannot occur in our community."
